“Climatic” tree of the “Center LTD” Company appeared on Svoboda Avenue in Lviv.

“Today we planted our “climate” tree in the center of the city of Lviv in order to draw attention to finding solutions and taking necessary measures to mitigate climate change, – emphasized the director of the Company “Center LTD”, Oleg Bota – Preservation and creation of green areas in the city is a good example of nature-oriented solutions, because such zones help to adapt to heat waves. Plants, unlike artificial surfaces, absorb and use solar energy for photosynthesis, that’s why it is always cooler in the shade of trees.”

By the way, May 15 the whole world celebrates International Climate Protection Day. Despite the fact that this day is not an official holiday, nevertheless it is very important for each of us. Climate change is one of the global problems facing humanity today.

Over the past 30 years the average annual temperature in Ukraine has already increased by 1.2°С, all seasons have become warmer as a result droughts have intensified, the water content of rivers and lakes has changed and extreme weather phenomena uncharacteristic for Ukraine have appeared. All this negatively affects food, life and property security of people, deplorably affects the state of natural resources and balanced development of states.

Adaptation to climate change can occur at any level of society – from an individual, company to the national and international levels. Adaptation measures come in many forms and formats and the contribution of each of us is important.

We thank the Department of Ecology of the Lviv City Council, Halyna Mykitchak, and the gardener of the Halytsky District, Oksana Sofiyanchuk, for choosing the tree and assisting in its planting.

Every day we consume natural and energy resources that directly or indirectly cause greenhouse gas emissions and thus global warming and climate change.

We still drive cars that burn fossil fuels; we heat our homes with gas and coal; we consume coal-nuclear electricity; we are cutting down forests and depriving wildlife of their homes; we wear clothes made from oil and dirty energy sources on the other side of the world; we constantly buy something, and then throw it into landfills, where a dangerous greenhouse gas – methane is formed; we don’t communicate much with each other about the effects of climate change that we are already experiencing today.

  • Save energy and natural resources, and money at the same time
  • Reduce car usage to a minimum. Prefer walking, cycling/scooting, public electric transport
  • Reduce, reuse and recycle waste
  • Use local ecological products, preferably of plant origin
  • Buy products and things with a low carbon footprint

(The carbon footprint is the sum of all greenhouse gases emissions that were formed as a result of human activity, production of goods or services)

  • Make a choice in favor of durability and environment protection
  • Use your own “green” energy
  • Take care of natural ecosystems
  • Vote and push politicians to act for the climate
  • Join others in achieving climate goals

On May 9 1992  in Brazil was adopted the U N Framework Convention on Climate Change (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change), an international environmental treaty to stabilize greenhouse gases concentration in the atmosphere at a level that would prevent dangerous anthropogenic impacts on the Earth’s climate.
