Ukrainian ecologists met with the Minister of the Environment of Austria

Yesterday Oleg Bota, director of the Center LTD Company, as part of the Ukrainian delegation, met with the Austrian Minister of the Environment, Leonora Gewessler.

The meeting was part of a study tour on experience of environmental protection in Austria organized by the Professional Association of Environmentalists of Ukraine.

During the meeting, Austrian Federal Minister for Climate Protection, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology Leonora Gewessler expressed her readiness to continue to support Ukraine in the environmental sphere and to deepen cooperation between our countries. According to her, our state should actively continue the implementation of European legislation, because this is an important norm for Ukraine to join the European Union.

“I am sure that our country is moving towards changes. Changes are needed in our legislation, as we claim to join the European Union. Our task is to bridge the 20-year gap in development between our countries as soon as possible and preserve a clean environment,” Oleg Bota shared his thoughts.

As part of the study tour to Austria, Ukrainian specialists will learn:

1. How the environmental control is carried out and what are the tasks of the Austrian Environmental Agency;
2. How air quality is monitored;
3. How environmental laboratories work, including regarding chemical pollutants (dioxin, PFAS, CO₃), pesticides, pharmaceuticals;
4. How measures to reduce CO₂ emissions effects and emissions trading are implemented
5. As wildlife crossings are arranged, fragmentation of wildlife areas is decreasing, planning of the region as a whole, focusing on roads and railways;
6. About CO₂ reduction in the transport sector – comparison of different types of transport;
7. On the operation of the heat plant waste treatment and wastewater treatment

We would like to remind that on February 1 of this year, a Memorandum on cooperation in the environmental field was signed between the environmental Agencies of Ukraine and Austria, taking into account the today’s challenges, in particular, russia’s armed aggression in Ukraine.

And the Austrian Federal Ministry for Climate Protection, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovations and Technologies will continue to cooperate with the Ministry of Environment of Ukraine, which was initiated by the Ministers of Environment of Ukraine and Austria, Ruslan Strilets and Leonora Gewessler.
