“Center LTD” company helped send 42 tons of batteries for recycling

“Center LTD” company voluntarily helped with the preparation of accompanying documentation and from now on batteries of 8 different types will be sent for recycling to several plants in Europe.

Organization “Batteries, surrender!” resumed large-scale shipments of batteries for recycling, in particular, 42 tons of batteries went to the Recupyl plant in Poland.

For a year and a half, batteries from the “Batteries, surrender!” were collected in the warehouse, but they could not be sent for processing due to “European bureaucracy”. The organization explains that in 2022, the digitization of the waste sector began in Romania, which made it difficult to accept batteries from outside the European Union, including the GreenWEEE partner plant with which they cooperate.

The first two trucks of batteries collected in Silpo supermarkets have already headed to the border with Poland. The processing of this batch of batteries is financed by “Silpo” and seven brands of batteries that are sold on the shelves of supermarkets – from the proceeds of sales.

Note that only 5% of all batteries in Ukraine will be recycled this year.

Transportation of waste across the border of Ukraine shall be carried out in accordance with all necessary controls. If there are no hazardous components in the waste, this must be confirmed by special documents that accompany cross-border transportation.

In order to transport waste across the customs border of Ukraine, opinion from the Ministry of Environment required. This document confirms that waste is safe, included in the Green List and its transportation does not contradict the Basel Convention. The need to obtain the opinion of the Ministry of Environment applies to all subjects of foreign economic activity who plan any movement of such products across the border. It is issued when waste is imported/exported across the border, which is safe for people and the environment.
