The<br \/>\nvast majority of them work in an overload mode, that is, with a violation of the design indicators<br \/>\nregarding the volume of waste accumulation. Landfills are a source of intense pollution of soil,<br \/>\natmosphere and groundwater.<\/p>\n<p>Disposal of waste should be carried out in municipal solid waste landfills (SW) that meet the<br \/>\nrequirements of the legislation and the technological equipment of which ensures the protection of<br \/>\ngroundwater, extraction and neutralization of biogas and leachate, monitoring of air emissions, soil<br \/>\nand groundwater pollution.<\/p>\n<p>One of the main indicators that affects the level of improvement of territories is the presence of solid<br \/>\nwaste landfills. Therefore, address waste management through the construction of modern safe<br \/>\nlandfills is an extremely urgent issue for communities.<\/p>\n<p>Modern landfills are engineering structures that meet the state and international standards and are<br \/>\ndesigned for household waste collection and disposal.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4646 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/center-ltd.com.ua\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/foto_poligon.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"840\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/center-ltd.com.ua\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/foto_poligon.jpg 840w, https:\/\/center-ltd.com.ua\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/foto_poligon-300x171.jpg 300w, https:\/\/center-ltd.com.ua\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/foto_poligon-768x439.jpg 768w, https:\/\/center-ltd.com.ua\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/foto_poligon-256x146.jpg 256w, https:\/\/center-ltd.com.ua\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/foto_poligon-50x29.jpg 50w, https:\/\/center-ltd.com.ua\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/foto_poligon-131x75.jpg 131w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 840px) 100vw, 840px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Successful design of a modern landfill site requires an integrated approach, consideration of<br \/>\nenvironmental and sustainable practices, as well as interaction with all interested parties.<\/p>\n<p>Among the key requirements to be considered during the design and construction of landfills are the<br \/>\nfollowing:<br \/>\n1. Consideration of norms and standards: the initial step is a detailed study of national and<br \/>\ninternational norms and standards for waste management and environmental safety.<br \/>\nIntegration of these requirements and risks into all design and construction phases is<br \/>\nessential to ensure compliance with environmental and safety standards.<br \/>\n2. Selection of the appropriate territory: landfills should be located at a distance from populated<br \/>\nareas and water sources. The site for the placement of landfills should be selected according<br \/>\nto the territorial principle in accordance with the sanitation scheme of the city or region and<br \/>\nthe district planning project or the general plan of the locality.<br \/>\n3. Technical planning: the planning should consider optimal landfill configuration, waste<br \/>\ncollection, treatment and disposal area, as well as ensure the tightness of the landfills<br \/>\n(installation of membranes, geotextiles or other engineering barriers that do not allow liquids<br \/>\nand gases to pass) and an efficient wastewater collection and treatment system.<br \/>\n4. Monitoring and control: waste disposal is carried out in accordance with ecological, sanitary<br \/>\nand epidemiological requirements, which minimizes possible impact on human health and<br \/>\nthe environment. Landfills should be equipped with monitoring systems that allow<\/p>\n<p>monitoring the quality of soils, underground and surface water, and atmospheric air, as well<br \/>\nas the effectiveness of measures implemented.<br \/>\n5. Public Involvement: Successful landfill design involves public and stakeholders participation<br \/>\nin discussions, taking into account their views, dealing with opposition and promoting<br \/>\nsupport for the project.<br \/>\n6. Closure and remediation plan: Landfills must provide for closure and remediation plans to<br \/>\nensure that the environmental conditions of the facility are restored after closure.<br \/>\n7. Occupational Safety: Consideration of occupational safety for landfill personnel is critical,<br \/>\nincluding the development of security measures and training of personnel.<br \/>\n8. Ensuring long-term sustainability: landfills should be designed for long-term sustainability<br \/>\nand sustainability of environmental impact, in particular taking into account the possible<br \/>\neffects of climate change.<\/p>\n<p>Designing landfills is a responsible matter, because such objects pose an increased risk to humans<br \/>\nand the environment. Three stages of landfill design can be identified: analysis of the existing<br \/>\nsituation, design, project expertise, which include:<br \/>\n1. Analysis of the current situation: first of all, during design all existing environmental aspects<br \/>\nand risks should be taken into account as well conditions and limitations of urban planning,<br \/>\nlegislative requirements, in particular, the requirements of SBN V.2.4-2-2005 &#8221; Municipal<br \/>\nsolid waste landfill &#8220;, &#8220;Rules for the operation of landfills household waste&#8221;.<br \/>\n2. Design: the draft landfill includes the following main sections \u2013 explanatory note; the<br \/>\ndecision of the general plan; technological solutions; internal engineering networks, which<br \/>\ninclude systems of drainage, collection and disposal of leachate; calculation of the expected<br \/>\namount of biogas; environmental impact assessment; graphic materials; construction<br \/>\norganization; architectural and construction solutions; estimates, etc.<br \/>\n3.
