At the beginning of this summer, Ukraine joined the European LIFE program on climate and environment. The corresponding agreement between Ukraine and the European Union was signed by the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine Ruslan Strelets and the EU Commissioner for the Environment, Oceans and Fisheries Virginius Sinkavi\u010dius.<\/p>\n
This is a very important step and a significant support for solving environmental protection issues and implementing measures necessary for adaptation to climate change. Participation in the program opens up new opportunities for Ukraine to obtain additional financial resources, technical and expert support in overcoming threats and challenges caused by Russia’s military aggression and climatic conditions, because “LIFE” is a powerful financial instrument of the participating countries. The program is designed for 2021-2027 with a total budget of 5.4 billion euros.<\/p>\n
The purpose of the Program is to restore and improve the quality of environmental components, including air, water and soil, as well as to preserve biodiversity and overcome the degradation of natural ecosystems.<\/p>\n
The directions of the Program are ecological (protection of nature and biodiversity, circular economy and quality of life) and climate (prevention and adaptation to climate change, transition to alternative energy sources). Grant assistance is provided on the basis of co-financing (from 60% to 95% depending on the type of project), on a competitive basis in the amount from 0.7 to 20 million euros. The duration of project implementation is from 3 to 10 years. A project application can be submitted by a single applicant or a consortium of participants.<\/p>\n
Applicants (participants) of projects can be legal entities of any form of ownership (local self-government bodies, regional and central Bodies of Executive Power, institutions of state, communal or private ownership, profitable or non-profit, public organizations).<\/p>\n
By becoming a participating country of the project, Ukraine has the opportunity to also use part of these funds for priority directions in the field of environmental protection, in particular for the restoration of the environment from the consequences of war, reduction of pollution of air, water, soil, flora and fauna, reduction of consumption of natural resources and implementation of the right for an environment safe for life and health.<\/p>\n
Criteria for a safe state of the environment are determined by environmental standards and regulations and technical, sanitary and hygienic, construction and other norms and rules containing relevant requirements. According to them, the design, placement, implementation, operation and reconstruction of enterprises, structures, revitalization of territories, operation of transport, etc. should be carried out.<\/p>\n
The EU Commissioner for the Environment, Oceans and Fisheries, among other things, noted in his speech at the time of signing the accession agreement that it will help to develop new additional projects for environmental protection, in which local business will be able to participate.<\/p>\n

The company has extensive practical experience in the preparation of project documentation and project implementation, its own measuring laboratory, which allows it to be an effective participant in projects that will be submitted to the “LIFE” program. To date, the Company is already registered on the program platform, is negotiating with potential participants and is preparing a package of documents for submission.<\/p>\n
