The technical competence of the laboratory depends on a number of factors, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>qualification, training and experience of staff<\/li>\n<li>properly serviced equipment &#8211; properly calibrated, certified<\/li>\n<li>adequate quality assurance procedures<\/li>\n<li>good sampling practices<\/li>\n<li>appropriate testing procedures<\/li>\n<li>current test methods<\/li>\n<li>traceability (efficiency of control) of measurements in accordance with national standards<\/li>\n<li>precise registration and reporting procedures<\/li>\n<li>suitable test rooms<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All these factors contribute to the fact that the laboratory has the technical competence to conduct research.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Why is the technical competence of the laboratory so critical for you as a manufacturer, supplier, exporter or customer?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Risk minimization.<\/p>\n<p>Today, customers around the world are looking for confidence that their production is not harmful to the environment, and that the products or materials used meet their safety expectations and environmental requirements. This often means that the product sample, individual environmental elements (water, soil, air) or emissions, discharges and wastes generated during the production process and business activities, are sent to the laboratory to determine its characteristics according to the standard or specification. For the manufacturer or supplier, the choice of a technically competent laboratory minimizes the risk of obtaining inaccurate research results that could provoke environmental pollution and pay damages to the state.<\/p>\n<p>Strengthening the trust of your customers.<\/p>\n<p>Confidence in your production is enhanced if customers know that it has been thoroughly tested by an independent competent testing center. This is especially true if you can show them that the business has been valued by a third party. Increasingly, consumers are relying on independent evidence, rather than simply taking the supplier&#8217;s word that we are not polluting the environment.<\/p>\n<p>Reducing costs and improving the perception of the brand and products abroad<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to a system of international agreements, technically competent, accredited laboratories receive a form of international recognition, which allows their data to be more easily accepted in foreign markets. This recognition helps to reduce costs for manufacturers and exporters who analyze the impact of production in accredited laboratories, reducing or eliminating the need for re-testing of the importing country.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Does the laboratory be ISO 9001 certified?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Laboratories can be tested and certified according to the international standard of management systems, called ISO 9001. This standard is widely used in production and service organizations to assess their quality management system for their products or services. The certification of an organization&#8217;s quality management systems for compliance with the ISO 9001 standard aims to confirm the compliance of the management system with this standard, but does not specifically assess the technical competence of the laboratory.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>How can you be sure that the laboratory is technically competent?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Around the world, many countries rely on a process called laboratory accreditation as a means of determining technical competence. Accreditation uses criteria and procedures specifically designed to determine technical competence. Technical experts conduct a thorough assessment of all factors in the laboratory, which affect the receipt of test or calibration data. The criteria are based on the internationally accepted standards ISO \/ IEC 17025 or ISO 15189 for medical laboratories, which are used to evaluate laboratories around the world. Accreditation bodies shall use this standard specifically to assess factors relevant to the laboratory&#8217;s ability to produce clear, accurate test and calibration data, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>technical competence of staff<\/li>\n<li>validity and expediency of test methods<\/li>\n<li>compliance of measurement and calibration results with national standards<\/li>\n<li>suitability, calibration and maintenance of test equipment<\/li>\n<li>testing environment<\/li>\n<li>sampling, processing and transportation of test items<\/li>\n<li>quality assurance of test and calibration data<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Accreditation also covers elements of quality systems that are covered by ISO 9001 certification. To ensure further compliance, accredited laboratories are regularly re-examined to verify that they comply with their technical examination standards. These laboratories may also be required to participate in regular proficiency testing programs as an ongoing demonstration of their competence.<\/p>\n<p>Thus, accreditation provides a means of assessing the competence of laboratories to perform certain types of tests, measurements and calibrations. It also allows the laboratory to determine whether it is doing its job properly and to meet standards. Manufacturing organizations can also use accredited laboratories to ensure that their in-house laboratories are tested properly.<\/p>\n<p>Accreditation provides for the formal recognition of the competence of laboratories, which provides ready-made tools for consumers to find reliable test and calibration services that can meet their needs.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>How can you tell if a lab is recognized?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Accredited laboratories typically issue test or calibration reports containing a specific type of symbol or confirmation indicating their accreditation. You should also specify in the laboratory for which specific tests or measurements they are accredited, as well as for which ranges or uncertainties. This is usually stated in their Accreditation Scope, which the laboratory can provide upon request.<\/p>\n<p>Accreditation bodies in many countries publish lists or catalogs of accredited laboratories, as well as laboratory contact details and information on their testing capabilities. If necessary, you can contact the accreditation body to find out if there are accredited laboratories that can perform the tests or calibrations you need.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>What about data from foreign laboratories?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Many countries around the world have one or more organizations responsible for accrediting their country&#8217;s laboratories. Most of these accreditation bodies have adopted ISO \/ IEC 17025 as the basis for the accreditation of their country&#8217;s testing and calibration laboratories. This has helped countries to apply a common approach to the definition of laboratory competence. This has helped laboratories apply internationally recognized test and measurement practices where possible.<\/p>\n<p>This single approach allows countries to enter into agreements based on mutual evaluation and acceptance of each other&#8217;s laboratory accreditation systems. Such international agreements, called mutual recognition arrangements (MRAs), are crucial for the adoption of research data between these countries. In fact, each MRA partner recognizes the other partner&#8217;s accredited laboratories as if they had been accredited by the other partner&#8217;s laboratories.<\/p>\n<p>This system of international agreements on mutual recognition (MRA) between accreditation bodies has allowed accredited laboratories to achieve a form of international recognition and easier acceptance of data accompanying exported goods in foreign markets.
